So far, when I was thinking about a beach, I was imagining plenty of sun, sand, some palm trees…
And I have never seen a beach like the Rialto Beach…
Moody, mysterious, filled with logs and sea stacks…
I found that the light was quite tricky – with a duality of bright light, contrasted with the dark sand.
The logs along the beach, once representing the life and source of the revenue for the region, and today.. dying.
Rialto Beach offers a perfect day or half-day trip – an easy walking (around 4 miles / 6,4 km round trip) trek and a picnic place at the entrance / next to the parking lot.
Before I post pics from Kalaloch Beach, have a look at this video (by Amazing Places on Our Planet) which gives a perfect 5min summary of the Olympic National Park wonderful beaches:
Those who prefer the more cinematographic scenery, check out the scene from Twilight 😉
Btw – the locals are highly taking advantage of the fact that the film was filmed in that area – trips are organised, shops surf on the film’s fame.
But at the end – why not? The bright days of logging and lumber industry are long gone. The tourism could help to fill the revenue gap… Or at least we can hope it will make the gap smaller, yet still keep the beauty of the place.
